The 19 Best Wedding Venues in Italy

“…it’s rare to come across a villa, rifugio, palazzo, hotel, museum, that we wouldn’t want to get married in.”

A breakfast tray with pancakes, syrup, jam, coffee on a rumpled white-sheeted hotel bed; visible hotel logos in soft light. A breakfast tray with pancakes, syrup, and berries sits on a white bed; Hotel d’Inghilterra Roma logo appears on the right.

As much as we despise the clichés of amore all’italiana, there is something special about weddings in the land of la dolce vita for Italians and international couples alike. The scenery up and down the boot does most of the heavy lifting in creating the dreamiest wedding locations, and it’s rare to come across a villa, rifugio, palazzo, hotel, museum, that we wouldn’t want to get married in. That being said, there are a few places that truly stand apart from the rest. Whether you’re imagining a quaint ceremony in a restored chapel, an opulent party on an island in the middle of Lake Maggiore, or a quietly luxurious gathering in a Pugliese Masseria, here are 19 of the most gorgeous places across Italy to say “I do”.

Keep in mind that nearly all of these places are now booking weddings and longer stays for the 2026 season, but reach out to the individual property for more up-to-date information.

EMILIA-ROMAGNA

Villa Coccapani Pignatti Morano

Modena, 180 guests

The dark-green, vine-covered walls of this Villa make the perfect backdrop for the dreamiest of weddings, with a hard-to-find tranquility that’s just minutes outside Modena’s city center. The space is rentable per day (at a much cheaper cost than many on this list, may we add), and you can party with up to 180 guests until 2 AM. There’s several different possible layouts with indoor/outdoor options–including a private area for the couple to get ready–but we’re big advocates for setting up a long, candlelit, imperial table between the trees, which is something this location does amazingly well. Our secret: book your event here for the spring, when the wisteria blooms and covers the ivy walls (and the ground) with shades of purple–though the fall, when the leaves turn red, is equally impressive.

LAZIO

Castello Ruspoli

Tuscia, 350 guests

This is the wedding venue for all of the kids who dreamed of getting married in a castle. Originally built in 1611 by Ottavia Orsini, the Medieval castle and its Renaissance garden have been carefully restored and conserved by the eponymous Ruspoli family, who turned it into an event space. For the ceremony, choose between the chapel on the ground floor of the castle, an outdoor altar, or the adjacent Church of Santa Maria, strictly for Catholic services. Depending on your guest size and vision (the max is 350 people), receptions can take place in the park, garden, or terrace, and the team can connect you with catering, scenography, lighting, flowers, music, video, and photo experts to help organize your event. They’re open year round, but the family shares that the best time to enjoy weddings in their gardens is May, June, and September.

Villa Aurelia

Rome, 190-200 guests

Perched atop the Janiculum hill–the eighth of Rome’s seven iconic hills–Villa Aurelia boasts some of the best views of the Eternal City… making it the perfect place to swap your eternal vows. Renovated in 2002, the Baroque villa features three gardens, a ground floor with a 190-person hall and terrace, and a Noble floor with three connected halls that can host 200 guests. Year round, only one event is organized per day, meaning yours will get 100% of the attention, and you’ll have the entire villa and gardens to mix and match based on your vision and guestlist. Also entirely up to you is which catering, decor, DJ, etc you pick, since the space doesn’t have specific partners. For your symbolic ceremony, the abundantly green “secret garden” is the perfect choice; after, you can set up long imperial tables alongside the checkerboard olive grove or round tables dotting the courtyard, or choose to have dinner on the Noble Floor. After-dinner dancing is only allowed in the halls on the ground floor, with a cap for music at 1 AM.

LOMBARDY

Villa Subaglio

Lecco (1-hour drive from Milan), 180 guests

Just an hour from Milan and overlooking the Po valley, this villa is the place to book for an Italy-meets-Bridgerton style wedding. The villa and its 265,000-square-meter gardens have an 18th-century elegance, but offer modern amenities–like a total catering and banqueting service. There’s almost as many possibilities of layouts for the ceremony and reception as there are spaces for guests (the latter is maxed at 180), but your evening could go something like this: guests enter through a majestic gate and walk down a pathway of centuries-old trees; the ceremony commences in the park; you newlyweds reemerge from the villa via a private staircase; you join your guests for dinner either at a long table in the garden or inside the frescoed reception rooms; you move the party into their renovated cellar–with a DJ and neon lights waiting–and dance the night away, until you and your new boo crash in the on-site bridal suite.

PIEDMONT

Terre Borromeo

Lake Maggiore, 400 guests

The second largest lake in Italy at 212 square kilometers, Lago di Maggiore is nestled in the pre-Alps straddling Piedmont and Lombardy and home to the beloved Borromean Islands. Each with their own baroque palaces and vast gardens–and visited by everyone from Napoleon Bonaparte and Mussolini to Ernest Hemingway and the modern English royals–these islands are jaw-dropping wedding locations. Isola Madre and Isola Bella are the two most common for weddings. Weddings in the “tower” can host up to 400 people, with dance floors open late. Inversely, the romantic castle can host 400 seated guests inside and outside, in rooms decorated with frescoes and coffered ceilings. Otherwise, the medieval gardens and courtyards–with free-roaming peacocks–boast stunning views over the lake and surrounding mountains, with terraces where you can dance after midnight. The aristocratic fortresses, baroque architecture, and refined gardens make the perfect settings for a particularly grand affair. Depending on where your event is held, some options for overnight stays are available, but even for guests who stay on the mainland, arriving at the wedding via barca makes it particularly memorable.

PUGLIA

Masseria Lamacoppa

Ostuni, 300 guests

If your dream wedding includes a classy rehearsal dinner in an olive courtyard, a simple ceremony underneath a white Trullo, a late-night DJ party in a secret clearing in the woods, and a day-after pizza party at the pool, then Masseria Lamacoppa is the place for you. Surrounded by woodlands for as far as the eye can see and built on a 73-hectare estate, this 17th-century luxury masseria is a natural choice for those who want an exceptional celebration. Choose between 10 different spaces around the vast property–with guest capacity ranging from 30 to 300–that totally differ in vibe, or mix and match to create your perfect ceremony. The Masseria’s six rooms accommodate 12 guests, and a separate ground-floor room is perfect for the newlyweds. The team here takes care of all aspects of production–design, wedding planning, chefs, music, etc–to ensure a seamless day. The typical wedding season runs from May to October, and in the warmer months, indoor spaces are available.

Masseria Potenti

45-min drive from Taranto, 250 guests

Masseria Potenti is a minimalist’s fantasy: white walls, simple decor, and a color palette of green olive trees, red peperoncino, bright yellow flowers, and the pale blue sky, the kind of place you want to run around barefoot in white linen. The 130-hectare estate has olive graves extending down to the Ionian Sea, and the family of the property–Maria Gerazia, Paolo, Chiara, and Walter–make your stay, and wedding day, as special as you can imagine. One hundred guests can stay overnight in 20 beautifully designed suites, 200 guests can celebrate during indoor receptions, and 300 for outdoor parties. Catering is provided by their in-house restaurant, with an entirely homemade, mostly Puglian menu, and wine is from their own estate. In the chillier months, you can have your service on the Androna porch, and in the summer, either beside the white muslin orangery, under the Agavi Portico (with exquisite dappled light), or by their pool. On request, a wedding planner and staff will help with all the minutia to ensure a day as perfect as the location itself.

SICILY

Commenda di San Calogero

Brucoli (40-min drive from Catania), 250+ guests

Situated right between Syracuse and Catania and under the distant shadow of Mount Etna, this mansion is the perfect marriage of Sicily’s sparkling sea and vast countryside. The 100-hectare property features vegetable gardens, olive groves, and orange trees–used to make marmalades, orange blossom honey, and olive oil–and, though it’s open year round, April to October is optimal to take advantage of their outdoor space and sunny Sicilian weather. There’s virtually no guest maximum for weddings held outside, and inside spaces can fit 250 people seated. The team will help you pick which space is best based on your vision and guestlist, and is also available for consulting on all other aspects, including catering from their traditional Sicilian restaurant. The villa accommodates 25 overnight guests in 12 rustic rooms, and another 20 people can stay in their nearby properties; typically, the minimum stay is one week, though you can also plan shorter stays/events during some times of the year.

Tonnara di Scopello

Trapani (1-hour drive from Palermo), 80-300 guests

This insane oceanside space is giving the castle from The Little Mermaid, and honestly, we’re here for this mix of Mediterranean sea and classic Italian architecture. Located in an ancient fishing village, the tonnara was, as the name implies, once used for tuna fishing; the former fishermen’s residences are now beautifully renovated suites and apartments, with room for 55 guests. The white terrace around the property leads right into the sea, making this a perfectly sand-free spot for your beachside wedding. Weekday bookings are available for two nights and weekend ones for three nights–meaning you have plenty of time for the ceremony, welcome dinners, recovery days, and time to soak up some Sicilian sun. The Tonnara doesn’t provide catering, weddings planners, etc, but has a rolodex of great options for whatever services you need. For inside events, 80-100 people can comfortably fit within two adjoining halls; and for outdoor events, you can invite up to 300. Prices change per season (they’re open from April to December), but the sea is sure to sparkle no matter what time of year you’re celebrating.

Susafa

Polizzi Generosa (1.5-hour drive from Palermo), 38 guests

In the foothills of the Madonie Mountains, Susafa is secluded in the agricultural heart of Sicily, with wheat fields stretching in every direction of their 500-hectare estate. Their philosophy is “living according to nature”–and here, you learn how to do exactly that. Brother-and-sister-duo Manfredi and Sara, who are part of the 5th generation to run the estate, transformed the 19th-century farmhouse into a luxurious eco-retreat where you can really relax and unwind, away from the stress of daily life and, most importantly, crowds. It’s perfect for a more intimate wedding, since the space accommodates 38 guests in total for both the reception and overnight stays in their 17 suites. For weddings rentals, they require exclusive booking of the property for a minimum of three nights–and that time will certainly fly by. On the days other than the wedding, there’s all sorts of activities you can take part in, including guided trekking excursions, garden tours to harvest wild herbs, and bucolic picnics. And their on-site restaurant, in a large stone granary marked by vaulted brick arches and a cozy fireplace (lit on the chillier evenings), uses local Sicilian traditions as a jumping off point for a creative menu. For bookings and weddings, Susafa is open from mid-April through to the beginning of fall.

TUSCANY

Villa Talamo

Grosseto, 500 guests

If there’s a place that embodies the concept of dolce far niente, this pastel-colored, ten-room villa is it. Nestled in a garden with palm trees that descends into emerald waters, the 18th-century villa was once a monastery and still maintains this tranquil, dreamy vibe–especially considering that their partner, Florence-based Genius Eventi, will help to plan practically every detail of your special day–from Michelin-starred catering to live music, outdoor tents, professional table settings, flowers, transfers, and more. Events that are outdoors can host up to 500 people, but the property has ample spaces to host stunning events with a significantly smaller guestlist. Music must be off by midnight, and the villa must be rented for a week in high season, which means your celebration can last for seven whole days.

Villa Talamo

Agriturismo I Bonsi

Valdarno (45-min drive from Florence); 150+ guests

A small, private church; a cypress-lined road perfect for a long imperial table; frescoed ceilings and walls; a dramatic stairway to make a newlywed entrance; a 19th-century garden for aperitivo; and an old oil mill that turns into an elegant ballroom… This is what a wedding at Agriturismo I Bonsi is like. Created and still owned by the Budini Gattai family (the same owners of Oltrarno’s hip Palazzo Guadagni), this turreted castle is a true neo-feudal property, surrounded by a double row of walls, embankments, and terraces and designed in collaboration with famed painter Raffaello Sorbi. A hundred-and-fifty people can fit inside under frescoed ceilings for dinner, and more can join for outside events (weatherproof tents are rentable). You can opt for their internal catering or choose your own. Dancing can continue well into the night, and then 38 of your guests can stay on the agriturismo’s property, either in renovated villas or a 17th-century-convent-turned-apartment space. Though inside is absolutely beautiful, we’re partial to events in their outdoor gardens, or among the olive groves and cypress trees, where peacocks roam freely.

Agriturismo I Bonsi

La Pescaia Resort

Maremma, 120 guests

For Ralph Lauren meets natural chic, La Pescaia’s Villa Tolomei and 6,000 square meters of parks and gardens is the place to book. For your special day, you privatize the entirety of the resort–which can host 44 overnight guests in four buildings, with breakfast included–but this means that an open bar, dancing, and music are allowed until 2 AM. The resort has been in the same family since 1522, and the current owners work to make each event unique. Catering comes courtesy of the historic, family-run company Guidi-Lenci, which takes care of the welcome dinner, goodbye lunch pool party, plus the reception, with aperitivo, a three-course seated dinner, and wine. Weddings here are particularly fairytale-like thanks to La Pescaia’s organic flower farm and, if you’re lucky, the scent of jasmine in bloom. A hundred-and-twenty guests are welcome for the reception, and the resort has a three-night booking minimum.

Borgo Stomennano

Monteriggioni (20-min drive from Siena), 90 guests

The tiny borgo of Stomennano was built on Roman and Etruscan ruins that are still visible to this day, which is certainly not something that you’ll see around other wedding venues. Farmhouses and two identical villas host up to 38 people overnight, and the ancient barn where you can have your reception allows for up to 90 guests. One of the villas, with large drawing rooms, is a stunning historical residence turned guest house, and the other contains a wine cellar that produces Chianti Classico and olive oil (both are ideal wedding gifts); the farmhouses are also little apartments, perfect for newlyweds to spend a few quiet, cozy nights together–and for getting ready on the day of. Day privatizations of the entire venue are allowed, but it’s definitely a place you’re going to want to stay the night; 2-4 night booking options are available, and you can add on a morning after breakfast, pool party, welcome aperitivo, etc. It’s hard to choose between their gardens, frescoed ballroom, huge granary, and infinity pool–but luckily, you can mix and match to your liking, with the help of their provided wedding planner (or your own).

Villa Cetinale

Sovicille (25-min drive from Siena), 100 guests

Architectural Digest called Villa Cetinale “The most beautiful villa in Tuscany”, and we could honestly leave the description at that. This marvel has its own hermitage and chapel (the 17th-century Chiesa di S.Eustachio)–plus a world-famous garden with seven votive chapels, 16 full length statues, 29 busts, and more. Once a center for horse racing, hunting, and sacred pilgrimages, the Roman Baroque villa really is unlike anything else. Together with three other villas, 48 people can stay here (25 in the villa itself), and 100 guests in total can come for the wedding (services in the chapel, however, can only accommodate 30). When it comes to planning the special day, they can recommend local wedding organizers and vendors, so no detail is left unturned. This is the spot for lavish entertaining, amidst historic statues, grand cypress trees, and frescoed rooms.

UMBRIA

Borgo Della Marmotta

Spoleto, 150 guests

Dating back to the 17th century, this Borgo oozes an Umbrian countryside charm that’s hard to find elsewhere. At the gates of small-town Poreta, the borgo’s 11 rooms and seven suites (which accommodate 40 people) spread amongst the hamlet’s cluster of houses–once stables, granaries, sheepfolds and mills–are styled with impeccable natural grace, thanks to owners Paolo, Alessandra, and Federico; the nearby Villa della Genga Country Houses feature four separate rooms with a private pool that accommodates another 20 people. You can have your symbolic ceremony in the surrounding olive-tree laden hills (there are over 1,200!), nestled in the borgo’s wisteria-filled courtyard, or in the piazzetta in the heart of the borgo; Catholic ceremonies can be held in the church just five minutes away, which hosts 150. Indoor events can accommodate 100, which bumps up to 150 people if you include outdoor tents. Practically everything will be taken care of by their team (the point of contact for all events is Federica Cirri Montani): planning, hair and makeup, spa treatments, babysitting, photos and videos, pre- or post-wedding events like pizza or BBQ parties, and DJs–who will play anything you like until 3 AM. When it comes to flowers, Marmotta has a special relationship with the Dutch flower market and can source almost anything you need–but we suggest you opt for some local lavender, which Umbria is famed for. Catering for a reception of up to 80 people is handled by their on-site restaurant Ristorante del Borgo, which focuses on regional dishes and wines–like the handmade strangozzi pasta with local black truffle paired with Sagrantino of Montefalco DOCG. You can choose Umbrian flavors for your wedding cake as well–the amaretto-flavored “Crescionda Spoletina” is another local specialty. There’s a two-day minimum rental for the space, and the resort doesn’t host weddings in July or August.

Borgo Della Marmotta

Tenuta di Murlo

25-min drive from Perugia, 60 guests

Owned by the same family for multiple generations, Tenuta di Murlo is one of the largest private country estates in Italy, consisting of a restaurant, three deluxe rooms, and nine gorgeous villas–all with their own gardens and pools–nestled amidst the greenest hills in Umbria. Weddings are held either at their restaurant Il Caldaro–surrounded by a large garden with ancient oaks–or their Villa Castiglione Ugolino, both with space for 55-60 guests max. (The villa sleeps 20 people in total with a minimum stay of three nights.) What we love most about weddings in the villa is its restored 13th-century chapel with frescoed ceilings and a marble altar, perfect for an intimate ceremony followed by an outdoor reception in the poolside garden. An internal wedding planner helps to navigate all details of your events: music (which must be off by midnight), catering from their on-site restaurant, flowers, bar service and wine (from their cellar), decor, wedding cakes, transportation, and more. While the space is open year round, the Tenuta di Murlo team says that spring and fall are the best times for weddings “to fully enjoy milder, sunny days and either the full blooming garden or the amazing change of colors of the surrounding nature.”

VENETO

Palazzo Pisani

Venice, 100 guests

Right off the Grand Canal, this boutique hotel captures the grandeur of Golden Age Venice with a recognizable facade, gold accents, beautiful frescoes, and antique wallpaper and furnishings–perfect for dreamy 1960s-style events. Open year round, the hotel’s 25 rooms and suites can host 64 guests, who can be accompanied by another 36 guests for the wedding. You can choose from a few different rooms (or even an entire floor) for your celebration, which differ in price from each other and depending on the season, though the elegant, brightly lit Salone del Doge with balconies and insane views out over the Grand Canal might just be our favorite. They’ll help you arrange almost everything–from the DJs and the flowers and decor to aperitivo drinks and snacks, late night cocktails, and dinner menus: the latter three are provided by their on-site restaurant (you can choose between a few different four-course and local menus, with different wine pairing options). Your celebration can rage on until 1 AM.

Palazzo Franchetti

Venice, 165+ guests

It doesn’t get more iconic than arriving at your wedding on a gondola via Venice’s Grand Canal. And at Palazzo Franchetti, you can do just that. Plus, this event space boasts a more than 1,500-square-meter garden in the center of Venice. (A 1,500-square-meter garden! In the center of Venice!) Outdoor space is certainly lacking in the tiny floating city, making this Palazzo one of the most coveted wedding locations. Their beautiful interiors have been restored and equipped to become one of the most active and prestigious centers of cultural life in the city, with rotating exhibitions that means your wedding venue doubles as a museum. Inside, up to 165 people can gather in one of the luxe rooms for your actual ceremony and for late night dancing. The gardens are at their most beautiful in the summer, when you can catch a stunning pink sunset over the Grand Canal.
