Meet Stefano Cinelli Colombini

Owner of Fattoria dei Barbi

Despite earning a prestigious law degree, Florence-born Sienese (which some note is quite a controversial combination) Stefano Cinelli Colombini made the unconventional choice to return home and work on his family’s farm. Since 1981, he’s overseen Fattoria dei Barbi, a sprawling 350-hectare property spanning Montalcino, Scansano, and Chianti that is focused primarily on producing the prestigious Brunello wine. He’s responsible for exponentially expanding their sales to around 40 countries (including Asia), revitalizing their vineyards, pioneering sustainable winemaking techniques, and advocating for Brunello’s purity–meaning no chemicals or other additives. Beyond the farm, Stefano has played a pivotal role in agricultural research through his collaborations with Italian universities, but his true joy comes from hiking through the Tuscan countryside with his son.

Qual è il suo ristorante preferito e qual è il suo piatto preferito da ordinare? (Favorite restaurant and what to order?)

Vivo a Siena, e per mangiare vi vorrei suggerire una cosa inusuale, Il Magnifico. È un forno e vende anche salumi e formaggi tipici. Da non perdere il Pan Co’ Santi.

(I live in Siena, and to eat, I’d like to suggest something unusual: Il Magnifico. It’s a bakery that also sells cold cuts and typical cheeses. Don’t miss the Pan Co’ Santi.)

Qual è la sua gita fuori porta preferita? (Your favorite Italian weekend getaway?)

A piedi intorno all’Eremo di Lecceto.

(A hike around the Eremo di Lecceto in Tuscany.)

Da chi trae ispirazione? (Who is your inspiration?)

Camillo Benso di Cavour.

Come descriverebbe l’italia in una sola frase? (How would you describe Italy in one sentence?)

Bella e impossibile.
