There is no place better to experience the bustle and buzz, the fun and the thrill of Rome’s beating heart than at G-Rough; the Italian capital’s very first and finest design hotel. Centre to the city of eternal charm, a stone’s throw away from Piazza Navona, this quirky haven of luxury suites is the pride and prodigy of the hotelier and seventh-generation Roman, Gabriele Salini.

His family’s house for hundreds of years, the 17th century five-story palazzo opened its doors to guests in 2014. As a great patron of the arts and believer that “Every transformation starts from an explosion”, Salini ensured that the transition from home to hotel both began and finished with the utmost creativity. A ‘demolition’ party and a 24-hour performance entitled ‘Art is Real’ inaugurated the renovations with a bang.

Today G-Rough wows its G-guests with an eclectic mix of old meets new. Original timber ceilings and old tiled floors are fused with retro style furniture and contemporary art. Iconic design pieces by Gio Pointi, Ico Parisi and Guglielmo Ulrich are dotted throughout and go hand in hand with the fluorescent neons and photographic wallpapers of present-day artists Gianni Piacentini and Pietro Ruffo. The hotel is an oasis of Italianism at its most supreme, reflected in every detail and every inch of its fabrication.

With ten truly exceptional suites, each enhanced by exquisite décor, the choice can be hard but trust us; worthwhile. Murano glass chandeliers, lux velvet chairs for lounging and large linen-laden beds, fit for a king, warmly await. Families can select a two-room option, with ample space, marble-topped tables, entertainment area and kitchenette. Upgrade to ‘suite-plus’ and a private terrace, tucked away into the rooftops of Rome, is yours for the stay.

On the ground floor G-Bar, which also acts as an extended gallery space to Salini’s cosmic collection, is a lively hub for both hotel guests and locals. Serving up the best Negroni in town, the bar menu includes a list of scrumptious snacks and Italian wines. If you’re seeing double, don’t blame the gin; the bronze mirrored tiles that deck the walls will be the culprit, forgiven as they bewitch and bedazzle and deepen the dreamiest mood.

If all streets lead to Rome, then they most certainly conclude at G-Rough. Located in the city’s soul, the Parione District, you are within walking distance of most of the major attractions. Nodding your heads to the famed 3rd century BC Pasquino, a ‘talking’ statue that guards the G-doors, take to Rome with a roar. The hotel offers a helping hand with its guided tours and action-packed experiences. Head to the ancient Appia Like True Gladiators, donned with tunic and sword, be Designer for the Day and fashion your own one-of-a-kind leather bag or descend to Rome’s Private Underground Layers and discover a hidden world that lies beneath.

Imploring for exploring, we urge you to visit G-Rough. We promise, the only ‘rough’ part to your stay comes when it is time to leave this paradise.
